Jack Thompson (July 25, 1951 - March 15, 2020), also known by the alias The Governor, is a recurring character in the series. He is a member of the Network and an AI program who runs the database of AIs in need of rebooting. Thompson is betrayed and killed by the King, and later holds Cortana hostage in the database, but is destroyed again.

HistoryEdit

Before the seriesEdit

Thompson first met Master Chief in 1998, when the latter tried to ask for Thompson's help in fighting CATS. However, Thompson refused when Master Chief casually mentioned Grand Theft Auto, claiming his mother was killed in a hit and run and his father in a gang turf war. ("Master Chief: The Movie") Later, after joining the Network, Thompson and CATS stood guard waiting for the time travelling Master Chief. ("Master Chief Sucks at Time Travel") Shortly before the series began, Thompson and L. Ron Hubbard questioned the King's motivations regarding Master Chief. The King told them he was of pivotal importance. ("Master Chief: The Secret Origin of the King")

Season 1 (2007-2008)Edit

An anti-gaming attorney, Thompson attempts to have Halo 3 banned, but is stopped and seemingly killed by Master Chief. ("Master Chief vs Jack Thompson") He ends up cloning himself in an attempt to take over the US Congress, and his clones successfully overwhelm Master Chief and force him to retreat. ("Master Chief: The Finale")

Minisodes (2008)Edit

Thompson's clones are short lived, however, as Barack Obama manages to kill most of them and expel them from Congress. ("Minisodes")

Season 2 (2008-2009)Edit

Because of his failure, the King determines that Thompson has outlived his usefulness, and proceeds to shoot him in the head. ("Master Chief Meets the Network") However, Thompson somehow appears onboard the Ark to Master Chief when the latter has been wounded by the King, telling him that he still has a prophecy to fulfill even if the one Cortana told him about was really a predestination paradox. ("Master Chief: The Second Finale")

Season 3 (2020)Edit

Thompson turns out to be "the Governor," an AI program who guards other AIs in need of rebooting. Thompson explains to the heroes that he hoped Master Chief would help him get revenge against the King, but the heroes instead teamed up with him. Master Chief and the Arbiter take Thompson down in a Pokemon battle and throw his reboot codes in the trash. ("Master Chief Sucks at Shopping") ("Master Chief Sucks at Rescue Missions")

Thompson is one of the many deceased characters who wishes Master Chief luck in his final battle against the King. ("Master Chief Sucks at Everything")
